A Little About Vanessa Lim Design
I'm an Interior Designer and have been in this industry for over 12 years now...Wow. I remember being excited about hitting 5 years of design experience, time really does fly! I graduated the Interior Design Management program at BCIT in 2013. I attended classes part time while also working at a design firm full time throughout my schooling. Although it was a very busy schedule, I would 100% recommend getting your foot in the door while completing your schooling. The hands on experience I got during that time was extremely beneficial to me.
After graduating I went on to work for various builders, developers and also freelanced to other designers. My dad is a contractor and I've been able to get some amazing experience working alongside him and his company. Learning the back end of the construction side of the industry has helped me navigate the the design industry so much.
I have two sons and after my first son turned one, I decided it was time to put my full energy into Vanessa Lim Design and focused on this business while also having the flexibility to be at home more with my kids. That was in 2019 - 4 years later and here we are, I'm so thankful for several busy years and all the learning and growing that comes along with that. Navigating a design business throughout Covid has not been easy to say the least. The industry is always changing but I'm heading into 2023 feeling ready and so motivated to expand our services and showcase what we're up to! Social media does not come naturally to me so bear with me as I attempt to figure this all out!
A highlight for me this year will be building our very own custom home. We found our lot about a year and a half ago and have been waiting on the developers to give us the go ahead to submit our permits. Fingers crossed that happens early this year.
Our lot is just over an acre and we are sharing it with my husbands parents. We'll have our main home with a shop/garage at the front of the property and my in laws will be in the 'garden home' (essentially a ground level coach home) at the back of the property and of course, my Dad will be the builder...a true family affair! Stay tuned for all the updates! We *may* be doing a little video series on this process...if I can get it together haha.
